Cloverfield, aka 1-18-08

Plugs
There is a new writing, sort of rant from Twisted Darkeness, called Freaking scene emo. kid.

I also has a article I posted on the WoW, but more on that below.

Cloverfield (1-18-08) and Cthulhu.
OK, if you go over to the WoW, Malach posted two movie trailers.  Both are prettty interesting, and I will talk about both.  The Second trailer is for the movie Cthulhu.  Interesting, and if done correctly could be a very good scary movie.  We will see (not thrilled Tori Spelling is in it).  Now, if you have no clue what Cthulhu means, it would be a long blog to explain it, but check out the Wiki article on it.  I am very surprised there has not been a serious large budget Hollywood movie on Lovecraft’s work.  He left the mythos pretty open for anyone to use.  Many have made a living off of his work.  Malach is a huge Lovecraft fan, and I really hope they don’t screw up this movie.

Ok, the first one.  Cloverfield, or 1-18-08.  Not much is know about this movie.  It is produced by J.J. Abrams, co-creator of Lost.  The trailer has gotten huge buzz (you can see why if you watched it) and there is a huge viral marketing campaign, and little information on it. You can see by the numerous “clue” website here, here, here.  There is alot of rampant rumor about this including another Cthulhu movie, Godzilla, or something else.  The trailer reminds me quite a bit over Blair Witch.  The is a lot of weird numerology associated with it, and this guy has gone a bit nutty with the analysis.  Well, January is a number of months away . .

The Long and Winding Road, the last number one hit for the Beatles.  Also a bit of a controversial song.  While the song was very successful, the post production modification Phil Spector made to the song angered McCartney enough, that the song was cited in court as one of the six reasons to break up The Beatles as a legal entity.

McCartney wrote the song on his Scotland farm, while contemplating the tensions that had developed among the band members.  McCartney was the sole writer of the song and he recorded a quick demo of it during The White Albumsessions.  The song is a piano based ballad and has a very uncoventional structure and some of the most inventive chord changes in the Beatles catalogue.  The song is a melocholy exploration of unrequited but inevitable love and also has a sophisticated structure.  The song really has no chorus and musically and lyricall is ambigous, and you can never really tell what part of the song you are in.

The song went through several changes (with the album) and by the time Lennon and then Manager Alan Klien turned the album over to Spector the rest of the members were barely speaking to one another.  Spector wrought several changes to the tune, adding a complete ochestral and choir element to the song.  Ringo was the only member present for this recording, and Spector, already known for his “eccentricitie” was in a particular mood for that recording.  According to balance engineer Pete Brown:

“He wanted tape echo on everything, he had to take a different pill every half hour and had his bodyguard with him constantly. … He was on the point of throwing a wobbly, saying ‘I want to hear this, I want to hear that. I must have this, I must have that.”

Brown and the ochestra became so annoyed they walked out on Spector, and had to be begged back after Ringo calmed Spector down (lucky Spector did shoot Ringo). Finally, Spector succeeded in remixing “The Long and Winding Road,” using 18 violins, four violas, four cellos, three trumpets, three trombones, two guitars, and a choir of 14 women.  The lush recording was in direct opposite of what the band wanted for the song.

When McCartney heard the song, he flipped, and dissolved the band 9 days latter (in court after Klein refused), he also sent Klien a letter demanding the added noise be elminated, but it never was.  Spector for his part said he needed to rerecord it as Lennon bass for the song was atrocious (which no one denied) but McCartney thought Lennon nas could have been taken out, and McCartney, the better bass player just re-record it.  George Martin agreed.  Still, the song was a huge hit, and a very beloved Beatles song (you can here the unaltered version here).

So there you have, Phil Spector broke up the Beatles.

The Mood of Red Sox Nation.

Laughed my ass off when I read the sign on the space shuttle. Maybe they were part of the new Texas education system where spelling and vocabulary are not taught.
McDonald’s delivery. Now we dont even have to leave the house to consume mass calories and fat. Next, I propose McDonalds IV. This way you wont have to waste time or burn calories, chewing.
