We were discussing this at work yesterday.
One of the major problems with some pro athlete’s is “leaving the street’s behind”. Frankly, I really don’t understand it. If you are blessed and lucky enough to make a truckload of money as a pro athlete, can’t your leave the punks and gangbangers you grew up with behind? So what if your a sell-out? Think about your life, how many people beyond family, do you hang with that you hung with when you were 10? In High School? In College? Not many for me? Before High School? None. From High School? Maybe 2. From college? About the same.
Now, I can understand wanting to go back and help out the old neighborhood. I mean compared some of these individuals. Allen Iverson. Pays his boys from back in the hood to hang with him, how many times has he gotten into trouble? Ice Cube, hit is big left Compton, began a new life, invested back into Compton and help revitalize Compton.
I suppose to, it is a bit of a racial thing. I am all for Black Culture and Identity, but when did that become garbage like BET, prison culture, gang culture and such?
Uh, yeah.

Tell a 20 year old stoner white kid to ditch his friends after winning the lottery. It’s the same thing. No freaking way. Somewhere along the lines of about age 28 though, with family and kids and house and car and bills, etc, different story.
Look at it this way. The money doesn’t help them get away from the streets, it just gives them the excuse to live there, worry free, well respected and empowered for life.

I aint seen none o th Spidrman films. I aint seen none o th Lord o th Rings films. Th only Bond film I evr saw was one I was forcd to watch. Th only Star Wars film I seen was th first one (back in 1977).
