The Beach Boys

Plugs
A new 8 1/2 by Eleven, back on the break up storyline!

The Beach Boys
Amazing band, similar in a way to The Beatles.  Started as a fun time surf boy band, moved into the amazing and groundbreaking sounds of Pet Sounds.  Very influential, especially Brian Wilson’s genius.

Prior to Pet Sounds, The Beach Boys pioneered the early sixities So-Cal surf pop sound, with their tight vocal harmonies (still some of the most beautiful and amazing ever), clean cut image, and almost savant quality of Brian Wilson. Like they Beatles, they moved away into a darker more musically innovative style with Pet Sounds.

Pet Sounds. Still ranked in the top 5 of greatest albums of all time.  In the midst of their early touring, Wilson began to succumb to mental illness issues, he was replaced on tour with Glen Campbell, and this allowed Wilson to focus on the studio, and writing music.  Out of this came some more sophisticated and experimental singles, and finally Pet Sounds.

We have all heard many of these songs 1000’s of times but imagine, if you will it is 1965 and you are listening to stuff like Surfin’ USA, Surfin’ Safari, Little Deuce Coupe . . . all great songs and suddenly you put on a brand new albym: Pet Sounds. The Opening funky guitar rift of Wouldn’t It Be Nice, followed by the dense harmonized wall of sound featuring accordians, the super harmonized voices, in turn followed by some extreme tempo changes and almost silence in the middle.  The much different tone and mood set, that goes right into some really introspective and almost dour songs like You Still Believe in Me, and I’m Waiting for the Day, side one ending with the a strange almost angry cover of Sloop John B.

The the second side opens with one of the greatest love songs ever written.  God Only Knows.  With the ironic opening lines of “I May Not Always Love You” which is then turned on it’s head by the rest of the song.  The song was the first release off the album, and broke a lot of ground, first with it’s title having “God” in it, and how much more mature and complicated musically the song was.

That song is followed by stuff like I Know There’s and Answer and Hang on to Your Ego.  I must of gave one chills.

Absolute music masterpiece.  Wilson has talked a lot about this album, you can find that on the web, but his most obvious influences, Phil Spector and The Beatles.  Pet Sounds was followed up by an amazing single, in Good Vibrations.

Rick Majerus
Good for him, for sticking up for what he believes in.  Majerus is like many Modern Day Catholics/Christians.  One can be morally opposed to Abortion, but still support the right for someone to get one.

The Celtics
So they lost to Toronto yesterday, a Raptor team that was first in the Atlantic Division last year.  So, if it take 75% three point shooting, 100% free throw shooting, and almost 60% field goal shooting to beat this team, the Celtics are in good shape.

I like this
That about a $2000 check for me . . .

OK.
I have been through Phil. International Airport, and it seems like it is right in the middle of the city.  Landing, you only like a couple hundred feet above rooftops.  But on the other hand . . . why would you live there?

Wow, this is interesting
So, the argument is medical pot is not the same law as prescriptions, so not covered,; but for example, if I were taking pain killers, I could still get hired even though I would flunk a drug test?  Where does the cut off end?  Can’t this now be an ADA descrimination issue? Pot can alter your judgement, but so can a lot of meds.

Also interesting
Yeah, I suppose that Joker promo isn’t going to work no more.

Man
Sarah Connor was right.

Malach’s Video of the Day

I am Malach and yeah, I went for the cheap joke, but Angryman went there first.

Since we are stealing/borrowing from each other, I will borrow from Tequila who had a funny…”what what? legos in the butt..”

Pet Sounds is still one of my favorite albums of all time. I didn’t really appreciate the Beach Boys back in the day but sometime in the early 90’s, I finally got it.

Cheap jokes are some of the best.

And our laws about marijuana are so screwed up. We should just call it legal and give it a rest.

  4. 4 here today, gone tomorrow

I’m like mike; early on I used to cringe when I heard the Beach Boys. One of our local DJs, a morning drive goon, is a musician. Periodically he plays this tape he has of just the vocals for “Wouldn’t It Be Nice.” I’ve sung in a lot of choirs, so I like to think I know a little bit about what that takes. And the vocals alone are simply mind blowing, because you know they just did it straight up - no manipulation. That’s when I converted.

I’m glad that Rick Majerus is telling people to be involved in politics. I base all of my decisions re: what to do in life based on what famous people do. That’s why I’m currently in rehab.

Mike: Yeah it took me a while to figure out the Beach Boys too, College.

    Phoebe: Agree

HTGT: There stuff they did after this too is pretty good

    Angry: Vote for Cthulhu

Toyi: OK then, I am morally opposed to Scientology, but I support the right of Scientilogist to worship how they want, no matter how crazy.

i used to work with a chick that was all whacked out on percocets, and her mood swings were pretty nasty. fuck, i wish she was smoking pot so it would chill her out.

  9. 9 Toyi

uhhm well IDK if the word “support is deeper in spanishbut here what I try to say

I oppose scientology, but I respect the right of scientologists, this doesn’t mean I support it, I don’t by fact.

What the word support means in spanish? cheer for it, and I actually don’t cheer for it i just respect it.

  10. 10 Dr. Murk

I don’t think Scientology and abortion is a fair comparison. That’s like saying I support people’s right to eat McDonald’s, so I have to support people’s right to torture Al Quaeda prisoners to get information.

I don’t debate the Pro-Life, Pro-Babykilling issue anymore. People used to view slaves as property and NO ONE could talk any sense into them either. It’s like justifying the holocaust by defending the Nazis right to a country without Jews.

There are other solutions besides abortion. Adoption is one. Hell, I’d rather see more birth control. That I can see you defending, but what the hell good does abortion do? Where is the huge societal benefit? What fundamental right are we violating if it’s made illegal?

If I didn’t want my cat to have kittens, and I had a vet go in and scrape out the unborn kittens, you’d think that was worth protecting? You’re against dog fighting but PRO-abortion?

At least my hypocrisies make sense…

I’d like to see Malach’s face if he got to watch the ‘procedure’ live and if they had him throw out the ‘discarded body tissue’. It should be manditory. Let’s have some of these Liberal Lawmakers and Court Jesters sit in on a few abortions.

    That ought to end it.

  11. 11 Malach the Merciless

OK Doc: I have seen abortions, I have been with people who got them. Adoption, it does not work for a lot of people, trust me on this one. In addition, I would much rather people use Birth Control, oh forgot, the Catholic Church doesn’t allow that . .

Working where I would work, I would prefer to see some of the unwed moms terminate a pregnancy, that raise a child in the Hell that is their life. And let’s not get into why do you support this when you don’t support this.

Why do most pro-lifers support capital punishment?

  12. 12 mike

Always interesting to me that some of the same people that oppose abortions so vehemently in government are the same people that always vote to cut funding for social programs, welfare, and education. They are also opposed to condom distribution and sex education. Pathetic really.

I’ve seen hunks of meat sucked out of a womans womb and and I’ve seen full term kids thrown in dumpsters and left to freeze.

We simply can’t have it both ways.

  13. 13 Dr. Murk

So… let me get this straight…

You’re both saying it’s better to kill a child that to take a pregnancy to term. Why?

Malach says it’s to not put the poor child through hell. Why not kill al the poor then? Why not euthanize cancer patients.

Mike, I don’t know what you want. I did not create the welfare state and I don’t support it because it doesn’t work! Malach will tell you that.

Look you guys are so contradictory. Even those who support capital punishment are wrong, but have their reasons. Criminals who are so terribly that they must die. I don’t agree with capital punishment. NO HUMAN BEING SMART ENOUGHT TO DETERMINE WHO BENEFITS BY A DEATH!!!!

What are you stupid? What if the child would have been a great world leader? YOU DON’T KNOW.

Give me one REAL reason why, besides health concerns, a woman should terminate a pregnancy.

To ensure a child doesn’t suffer??? WTF? Do you even listen to yourself?

And YOU, Malach, opened the can of worms by playing the comparison game. Now, because it backfired, we can’t make comparisons?

This whole arguement is useless. You’ll tout the party line and not even THINK about it.

I won’t even go into the specifics of your past Malach, because of the horrible pain memories can bring back.

Now you got me singing “wouldn’t it be nice…” too!
