Ahhh the Winter Solstice . .
At least here in the Northern Hemisphere, today is the Winter Solstice!  Cool, more sunlight!  I have a special video for today to celebrate it.

Another winning day at work!
So after the two feet of snow we got, I head out this morning to work a little early.  The roads were artocious of course, especially the streets of New Bedford where some of even the main streets weren’t even plowed.  I got into work at about 7:45, and immediately saw two problems.  Our lot had not been plowed out, and there was little parking on the streets, and there was a 4′ snow drift up against our front door.  I was prepared to give out maintenance guy a hand with some shoveling, but he was nowhere to seen.

So, climbed up to the front door, which the snow was right up to the handle, and luckily, the door opens in.  I dropped in shut off the alarm, and saw I was the only there.  So what did I do, I went downstairs, grabbed a shovel, and began shoveling out our front entrance.  I called my boss to tell her the situation.

She was surprised our maintenance person was not there, but not surprised about the lot, as the guy who owns the lot is cheap.  I got enough of the stair clean, that my fellow employee who all rolled in around 8:15 could get in.  The Director of Residential Services came in with our Food Pantry manager about the same time.  Next problem, he needed to get our truck out as he needed to drive around getting toys and such for our Christmas Program.  So, the three of us go to dig him out, which consisted of a 30′ driveway with 3′ snow drifts. 

We get about halfway done, and one of my co workers is stuck on the corner in her little sports car as the streets weren’t really plowed.  So I ran there, dug her car out a bit, and jumped and and gunned her up the hill and out of the mess, parking her car in a clear space.

Back to the Truck, we got that shovelled out by 9AM, and off he went.  Had to help another car stuck on the corner and by that time, I had to run home and change cause I was all wet from slush and sweat.  Then I head out to Fall River, whose roads were just as bad, to meet with a client who wasn’t home.

Got back to the office, and we did a awesome job giving out the 150 so bags of gifts, only leaving 30 at the end of the day.  Finally by 3PM, the lot was plowed, so we all moved our cars and parked there.

I love my job!
