Malach is doing real well, been jogging now for about a month, got my 7 year old to go with me after run yesterday, and she did ok.  I am now consitently weighing under 220.  This winter I had gotten as high as 240.  Still pushing for 205 so I can fight Machida.

The Debate
So, my brother and I had a debate via email today about this cartoon.  We will probably continue this on our next podcast, which we will be restarting in the spring, and are currently in negotiations for a very special guest.  Of course as always, email me questions for our Mailbag Segment.

So, Chris’s (Murk etc) opinion was that is was the “Best Cartoon Ever” (just his way to rile up me the bleeding heart liberal), I responded I thought it was kind of stupid that they would let that go to print, and thought it would end there, then I got this:

Oh come on! If it were George Bush and the two cops had shot a monkey you’d say it was AWESOME! I seriously don’t understand you sometimes. Both W and Hussein Obama are men, both are president and it’s not only fair, but just that the New York Post continue to make hurtful and dangerous cartoons, no matter what color the skin is.   You post those offensive Muhammed cartoons! Wasn’t THAT a bad idea?

So, here is where the debate started.  No, I completely understand what the artist was going for here, and yes, I do support a persons right to publish, draw, whatever crap they want to, of course it is up to editors to decide what to print, so this is where I find fault.

The intention of the artist was to show that the Stimulus Package was written by a dumb animal, and it happened to also comment on a crazed chimp that was shot to death in a CT Zoo.  That is the problem, to most of the rest of the world, the artist and the magazine associated with the artist is calling Obama a monkey, and racial slur from a Black.  For neither the artist or the editor to catch this is beyond me, and I am pretty sure that was not the meaning the magazine or artist was going for.  Not only that, I did not find the cartoon particularly entertaining, but that is another issue.  As for Bush being portrayed as a monkey, of course it has been done a million times, and my brother sent me a image to prove it.  First, that is a Internet image, published by some photoshop geek, did not appear in a magazine or newspaper.  Secondly, Bush is white, and one of the advantages of being white, is the calling us a monkey is not racially insulting.  Thirdly, Bush himself was the worst President I can recall in my conscious life (Carter is up there too, but I was only 8), and calling him a monkey is insulting to monkeys, of course that is just my opinion.  I am not sure, but this election has turned my brother, who has always been a open minded conservative into Rush Limbaugh.

To me it is rather simple.  I am an artist, I make things, people read all kinds of crap into it.  If it is getting published, or going on one of my clients website, it needs to be approved by someone first.  So, If say I put a swastika on a client website prominently even if it is a piece of art where a Jew is stomping on the swastika, you gotta know, someone is gonna have a problem with it.

Now for the Mohammed Cartoons.  There is a big difference.  First, the cartoons that are poking fun of Islam and Mohammed in general, and intentionally doing that.  They are not trying to get at a different fact and mistakenly make fun of Islam.  These aren’t good either, some of the worst political cartoons entertainment wise I have ever seen.  Again, some editors made a final decision to post these.

So, join the debate!  Hey Eric Holder, we talking about race!

MMMMMMMMMM – Red Robin!
So the family went to the new Red Robinin Wareham today, about 20 minutes away.  Now maybe I am behind on this, but this is the first Red Robin I have ever been too, and the only that has opened in 15 – 20 minutes driving distance in my life (in fact there are only 5 in MA).  In fact, I did a website for someone in CO and it seemed like there was a Red Robin, ever couple miles, kind of like Dunkin’ Donuts Around here.  I was good.

As for Dunkin’ Donuts, I can pass 6 on my way to work, which is about 7 miles from my house.

So it was a $1.96 the other day at BJ’s in North Dartmouth.  I was all excited, I refuse to put more that $25 in when I get gas, and I got more than 10 gallons!  AWESOME!  It really makes you wonder though, seriously, gas was almost $4 gallon only 6 months ago, something is wrong there.

• Eve asks: Dear Malach, You save bottles in your basement for a year?? Wow and I thought my pennies in a jar was odd.  Yes, Malach has become frugal.  I save them in garbage bags in the storage part of my basement.  I also save and roll all my change.  Cash both in once a year.  Generally make $35 – $70 in cans, and anywhere from $120 – $450 in change.  Imagine if I lived in Mike’s state, I would double my cash in cans.
• Dr. John Rebello asks: Dear Malach, Is that you running around with the carriage and the bags of bottle returns?  No, it might of been one of my clients.  Seriously though, if you can make $30 a day doing this, that is $150 a week overy a 5 day week. That is more than what a family of 4 makes on welfare.
• Mooooog writes: Dear Malach, You and your wife did McCain and Palin last night? Was he as dry as he looks? I’m guessing you needed a ton of lube.  Unfortunately his dryness and albinoness is not something I could easily dupicate, esp since the wife and I were doing Halloween on the cheap, the whole outfit between the two of us cost about $10.

Well, I was really convined Tampa would destroy the Phillies, boy was I wrong.  But, as my father stated, and he is probably right.  Tampa shot it’s load in the series with the Red Sox, and unlike the Red Sox, they don’t have the experience to regain momentum for the next series.

Ahh the Economy . .
So no bailout, worst stock dive in history, gas prices at all time highs, food prices at all time highs, and winter is coming . . I supposed if the whole thing get Great Depression like desperate, Malach has a slight advantage jobwise, working for the Catholic Church and Human Services.  I supposed if it get really bad, I could move the family into my Parent’s House, help them pay off their mortgage and wade it out . . . They would love that.  I don’t even want to read this stuff . . .

Speaking of the workplace . . .
OK, try to explain this one to me.  We had to fire someone today, because she stole a co-worker’s credit card from her office and proceeded to rack up $600 on it.  1.  Why would you steal a co-workers card?  If you get caught, not only do you have the legal issues, but your employer also fires you, and you can’t collect.  At least if it was someone elses, she could of covered it up.  2.  Why would you steal a credit card and then go on a shopping spree at a place like the Christmas Tree Shops?  I mean they don’t even sell expensive stuff, clothing, or electronics.

Mr. Hubble
Poor guy, he is on his last legs, but served us well, his replacement will be even better.  Perhaps it will do Skylab on us?

Gun Rights
Ok, I don’t have a problem with owning guns (as the economy collapses, we all might need to own a few), but when gun groups do stupid things like fighting this, or fighting bans on assault weapons, you give yourself a bad name.
