You are listening too . .
Bukowski from Modest Mouse. A song about Charles Bukowski (as the song says a good read, but . . ) and God.

Dear Malach
Haven’t had a Dear Malach is a while have I? Been shirking my duties . .

Nurse Myra asks: Dear Malach, “Wanna get busy, put on a fizzy”? who wrote those lyrics anyway….? The nurse is refering to this video I posted yesterday. That of course is from the [adult swim] show Robot Chicken. It is of course a take off on Jim Henson’s cult classic Dark Crystal. The wrap was performed and partially written by T-Pain. T-Pain is perhaps most famous for his participation in this:

KMP Softball Update
Wow. So we are in the championship round. We are playing the best out of 5 vs. the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs came in second and were the only team that beat us twice. So we played the first game vs. them today, and surprisingly we smoked them, 13 – 0. My pitching was on, and I decided before the game, I was only pitching one pitching until they showed they could consistently hit it. My curve. My curve is a ball I throw that starts inside off the plate, and then break over the plate at the last minute. Evidently between that and KMP’s stellar defense and timely 2 out hitting, we shut them out, my 4th of the year. Got our next game Wednesday . .

I also hit a little better today, I have figured out and I trying too hard to get cute with bad pitches.

Ugh
What is up with Sports figure doing crap like this? It was sickening with Lebron, the TO and Barry Bonds show, and now Favre. What is the man going to do when finally he physically can’t do it? Suicide? Heroin?

Wow . .
I really can’t believe they are making a TV Show out of Shit My Dad Says, and starring William Shatner of all people.

Hey Scientists!
Your wrong! The world’s oldest creature is Mike.

Lost
So, I watched quite a bit of it in the past few days, and may I say, the Ben Linus is one awesome villian. I love not only did he get John Locke to blow up the Sub, ruing Jack’s plan to leave the island, and get friends set free, he got his Dad who he hates as a hostage too. It makes you wonder if this is all planned, but can’t be can it? I just left off with the “death” of Nikki and Pablo. Funny stuff, reminds me of those old filler X-Files stories to lighten the mood.

Janglin’ from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Fun little (well not really little) band.

KMP Softball Update
Interesting game tonight vs. the Red Eyes. We couldn’t hit, and had something like 20 pop flies in the game. It was a low scoring back and forth game, and there was a really bad call in the 6th inning that led to a run for the Red Eyes to tie us. But we managed to bring in one run in the last inning, and our fastest runner manages to scoring from first on a single in a very close play. So we won 7 – 6.

OK, I don’t watch tennis . .
But seriously?

Recent Bruins trade . .
Really good trade for the Bruins here, they still have the number 2 pick in the draft which is going to give them one of two players who are going to be stars, they dump Dennis Wideman who has a lot of potential, but was very inconsistent here, and they add a guy who has scored 20 goals the past few years on a bad team on Horton, who si big and physical, and picking up a banger in Greg Campbell. It could be argued these two minus Wideman might of got Boston the cup.

RIP Mosi Tatupu
Unless you are a older Pats fan, you don’t know what Mosi Tatupu meant to those teams of the 80′s. Mosi was Kevin Faulk, only bigger. You needed a TD on a goal line stand, and 3rd down catch, a big block, extra protection, you put Mosi in. Like Faulk, he was not appreaciated by the NFL pundits until later in his career, cause he did not put up huge numbers.

Shame for someone to die at 54. RIP Mosi Tatupu.

Your Olympics Update
So the Canadian Hockey team spanked Germany only to have to tonight face Russia. We also got the US team facing Switzerland, who also played yesterday, and unfortunately that is on at 3PM EST. Gonna see if I can watch it on the internet.

Also, what a beautiful performance by figure skater Joannie Rochette. Rochette mother died unexpectedly in Vancouver earlier this week, much like what to Dan Jansen when his sister died a number of years ago. Not only did she do her program flawlessly, she earned her best score ever in the short program. It brought a tear to my eye late last night, and Scott Hamilton could barely talk without balling at the end of the program.

And maybe I am crazy, but I still to this day want to try bobsledding.

Way to go US, basically dominating the Swiss (which I watched at work, thanks to the internet), with two called back goals. Canada is also rampaging on Russia right now. Talk about a scoring fest it is 7 – 3 in period 2.

Some interesting debates/thoughts
So, between Lucas TdS bringing up what is a “sport” and the Reverend Angalyph’s tirade on the music industry and the financial viablity of the internet, it has give too great subject for today. So we begin with:

What is a Sport?
Sport is commonly defined as as an organized, competitive, and skillful physical activity requiring commitment and fair play. It is governed by a set of rules or customs. In a sport the key factors are the physical capabilities and skills of the competitor when determining the outcome (winning or losing). The physical activity involves the movement of people, animals and/or a variety of objects such as balls and machines.

The comment from last night was that Ice Dancing was not a sport, but by the definition of the word it is. It just not ice dancing, this has been argued about gynastics, figure skating, cheerleading and similar types of sports are all not considered sports some times. Why? Those sport are not primarily male persuits for one, and I think that still has some play in this. The other issue, is unlike most sports, those sports winners are determined by some element of opinion and/or judging. The same could be argued with “extreme” sports are judged sports but most consider them sports. Even Ski Jumping has a judged element to it. I would argue that any of the above meet the definition of sport, even ice dancing. You or I could not do what a competition level ice dancer could do (or a curler for that matter), just as I could not run like Usain Bolt. With some training, who knows, but these are very physical (ice dancing, gynastics, all of it) activities where your physical skills determine whether you win or not.

There are also arguments about NASCAR being a sport, being that the racers are just driving cars. But I challenge anyone to go to a track, get a car up too 200MPH, and drive around the track in one direction for 3 – 4 hours, never mind add 40 other cars doing the same thing inches away from you. But just as I probably could not hit a 98MPH fastball without some practice and luck, I probably could not do NASCAR (or even something like Figure Skating) with out some serious injury or even death.

One this I do agree with is the concept of Hunting not being a sport. Hunting is a not a competition (well and very one side competition). I don’t know some of you may have other thoughts, and I would love to hear them.

Do you come from a land Down Under?
So Reverend Anaglyph has a very interesting rant yesterday at his blog. It is a very interesting read, but very long. If you want to read it, it is here. You might want to read it as Agalyph is a much better writer than I am.

The whole premise of the rant is how the internet has specifically changed the music industry and the way one does business. It began with the recent court ruling in Australia, with Larrikin Music who owns the popular Australian child’s ditty, Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree. Any child growing up in Australia knows this song like someone here in America would know a nursery ryhme. We here in the states are also pretty familiar with the song and it is in most children’s music. Song was made in the 1930′s by Marion Sinclair, and when she died in 1988, the publishing rights for the song transferred to Larriken music. The song is still copyrighted according to Australian copyright law (as a little aside, we will soon be having some major court battles involving the copyright status of many of the characters introduced to us in the 20′s, 30′s, and 40′s. It has already started with Superman, Mickey Mouse ain’t far behind).

So, Larrikin Music in 2009, decided to sue Sony BMG and EMI for infringement of copyright for the song Down Under from Men at Work; I think everyone in the world is familiar with the song if not click the link. The issue with the song is the flute riff at the begining, which I have been whistling all day. Larikin claimed it a direct reproduction of a piece of the Kookaburra song. Something I never noticed, and even now I can only kind of see it. I have read that Colin Hay has stated the flute riff is a tribute to the song, being very much Australian. The Australian courts sided with Larrikin and now back royalties from this extremely popular are due, back from 1982.

30 years. All this time, no one has had issue with the song, not even Sinclair who I a sure heard the song. All for a small little riff. This in part goes back to the issue of sampling, and interpretation of copyright law.

This in turn got onto a rant how the music industry needs to find new ways to make money, so people buy rights to songs, and sue people. With the advent of the internet, and someone like me being able to post this song without permission, so any could theorectically take it goes right up the record companies ass. But everyone does it, and the Music industry is trying to catch up by suing people who download music illegally, sue for sampling, and not eve based on content on the use of the sample. On top of that people are getting discovered by the internet, and many bands have even gone internet only.

Same thing is happening to the newspaper industry, they don’t know how to make money off all this free internet. I will use my local newspaper for example. The Standard Times is the local paper, covers the Greater New Bedford Area. They have had a free website for a number of years. So the past couple of months, they have been limiting what you can view on the website unless you have a newspaper subscription or you pay $4.00 a week to view what you want. Of course it hasn’t been working cause there are plenty of other website that are free, that I can get the same news from.

There was also something from a web architect about Web 2.0 failing cause no one made any money off it. Dude, there are is way too much free stuff on the net. Example: Facebook. If tomorrow, Facebook started charging a monthly fee, what would happen? Everyone would leave for the next big free knock off.

It was just a very interesting conversation, head over and join it.

So . . .

That made you throw up in your mouth a little, admit it.

This makes me giggle
That the President of Toyota’s name is Toyoda, yeah I know, I am sad.

I am Malach and that was nothing like that Kookabura song

Dear Malach
Dear Malach returns with a few questions from the buckos!

Buzzard Billy asks: Dear Malach, Did the 950 time drivers test taker have to be Asian? Yeah, I know, I know but there is a kernel of truth to every stereotype is there not? I will ask Dr. Murk’s Asian wife when I see her this weekend how many times it took her.

Dr. John Rebello asks: Dear Malach, Another of you lovers, that driver? Ahh, Dr. John will your never learn? Every joke you make about me, I turn around on you and having relations with your mother, so my answer: Yeah, your mother’s still a bad driver.

Hey Sammy Sosa?
What is up with that? Seriously dude, this is weird!

Seriously though, why do we have issues with blacks and latinos lightening their skin and not with us white people trying to darken our skin by tanning?

NO WAY!
Not the New Bedford I know!

Hey Junior Seau
Welcome back to the Pats.

Rush Limbaugh buying the St. Louis Rams?
Let me start out by saying I hate Rush Limbaugh, he is to whites what Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are to blacks: race baiter who make money off of peoples fears. I completely agree that Rush Limbaugh should not be a owner in the NFL. It is a privilege to own a team, and not a right. Just to show I am not biased, I don’t Mark Cuban should own a NBA team either.

The issue with Rush, is there are a lot of comments out there about him, that are supposedly said by him, but he constantly denies saying. The problem to me is not Rush being a racist, is Rush is like many of the good old boys of the GOP, especially the last administration.

It is kind of a shame too, because Dave Checketts has done a STELLAR job reviving the St. Louis Blues, and getting the people of St. Louis back in to hockey, he could probably make the Rams at watchable again.

Seriously . . .
What the hell does “I (Swastika) Obama” mean anyway? I see we found the only Neo-Nazi in Southeastern MA.

That Marge Simpson . .
I suppose Playboy has to compete with internet porn somehow . . .

I know you don’t have a job . .
but no need to worry, you can see Gloria Estafan for free!

Plugs
There is a new 8 1/2 by Eleven, the whole family coming out now!

You are listening too . . .
So, Malach is of couse doing who should be put in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and is currently up to Public Enemy. Got and email the other day saying that I skipped over Yo! Bum Rush the Show, PE’s first album. So, ever to please, Malach has gone back and put up Miuzi Weighs a Ton off that album. Yo! is a very interesting album, it is at once, PE, but no PE. It is interesting see Chuck and the Bomb Squad struggle with trying to make political album, while still trying to please a record company with more good time early 80′s Rap Music.

Again, PE was not the first to put a political message into a rap song, they were the first to make a real political statement with the music too. You can hear with this song, a couple years before their huge breakout album, that wall of sound they are trying to create.

T-Shirt Friday
So Malach has decided to join in the fun of Nursemyra, and her blog crew (which I still need to check them all out) in their Friday ritual of posting the t-shrit you are wearing on Friday. So Malach did just that:

This of course is Huey Freeman, fellow PE listener from The Boondocks.

Yikes
Rio is nice, but doesn’t it have one of the highest violent crime rates in the world? We were safer in China!

Ted Williams’ Head
Wait until you read this book. Cryogenics is a psuedo science at best, but there are some freaks who work at these places.

HDTV
So Malach has his first experience with HD, and let me say one thing. MAN PEOPLE ARE UGLY! You ever watch History Channel HD, and see this nutty professors and all their splotches and blemishes! Yeah the show up brilliantly in HD. The kicker was my wife, we were watching the NESN PreGame Show. My wife immediate comment: “Wow, I did not realize Tom Caron was so bald.” That what happens when you can see every hair on someones head.

So you want to live in the 50′s and 60′s?
Check this out. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety did a crash test between an ’09 Chevy Malibu, and a ’59 Chevy Belair to show how much the safety feature and car designs have improved safety wise in the past 50 years. All Malach has got to say about this? No wonder so many celebrities were killed or disabled in car accidents back then!

The LA Angels of Anaheim
Anyone see the Angels celebration last night? The one where they poured beer over the uniform of Aaron Adenhart? Aaron Adenhart a promising young pitcher killed early this season by a drunk driver?

No Plugs

Thanks MBTA!
So, Malach the other day, took a client up to Boston for a Social Security Appeal. While I applaud Social Security for making it harder to get on SSI and SSDI, I got 3 cleints right now who have been denied who should of not been denied, and the appeal process takes about 2 years.

So, having never been to the Office in Boston (usual our appeals in South Eastern MA are in Providence, I check directions to get up there, thinking I would pick up the T out of the city, ride in and walk to the Office. If you have never been on the Boston Subway, it is a very excellent system, and I use it all the time.

So, I checked the MBTA website it see where the closest stop was to the building I was going to. According to their website, that would be 1 mile away. This surprised me quite a bit, but the client I was with could not handle that walk, so I drove into the city.

The building I was going to was only a few blocks from Faneuil Hall, so that gave me my first indication the MBTA website was mistaken. I find the building rather easily, drop the client off in front, and find a place to park. If you have never been to Boston, forget parking on the street, will take you hours for a free spot, and metered parking is a quarter every 15 minutes, limited to 45 minutes, so I knew I could not park there. But there are plenty of lots, and garages one can park in. I found one a block away.

Now parking in Boston is expensive, more on that after. So I walk back to the building and lo and behold, 30′ from the entrance of the building is the Bowdoin T Stop. DAMN YOU MBTA!

So the were there at the Social Security Office about 2 1/2 hours, which if you never been to a Social Security Office, is pretty good time, the client and I walk back to where my car is parked. The Valet gets the car, and I head out. There is a machine you can slip a credit card in to pay. I slip in the ticket, and remember I told you it was expensive to park in Boston? $45. Luckily, my employer will reimburse me for it, but $45! It only cost me and my family $40 to eat at Red Robin last night.

What cheeses me off the most, is that if I had taken the T from Braintree, it would cost $5 to park, and about $10 for me and the client to ride the T.

This is going to be an interesting case
Malach has worked with intergender, and trans gender individuals before, and there is always a question of sexuality. I have had 1 intergender client, and 2 transgender, they were all homeless, and issue was what shelter to put them in. Female shelter? Male Shelter? In all these cases not one shelter would take them.

Luckily, my work place runs a male and female shelter, and we have a small private room there for these kind of cases.

It will be really interesting to see where this goes in the athletics world. If for example Semenya is intergender, she has enough Male hormones to make her more dominant in female sports, but not enough to compete with men.

Brady Baby part II!
Well, that Tom Brady, he is just fertile! Given all these women the snakes he is! So, if the Brady/Bundchen Baby ain’t the next evolution in humanity, I don’t know what is.

9/11
So, my kid school today, did a little something about 9/11 for the first and second graders. Now they did not show them any footage, but the talked a bit about what happened. Especially in second grade, all those kids were born 2001/02. My son was born almost 2 months exactly after 9/11.

I had a nice discussion with them over dinner about it, what happened on that day, as much as they asked. Neither of them was interested in video footage, just as well, I am sure sooner or later, they will see it.

KMP Softball Update
Well we missed our game on Monday, due to rain, it put us 9 days between games. When that happens it usually takes up several innings to get warmed up. Did again today. We lost final score was 12 – 6. Didn’t start hitting until the 5th inning, and had a bad defensive inning and gave up 6 runs in that one. Mlach pitched good, and batted 2 – 3 with a walk.

Alice in Wonderland
Now how much fun will this be? Burton is one guy who can pull this off in Lewis Caroll style. Check out the Image Gallery.

Congrats to the US Men’s Soccer Team.
They beat Spain today, Spain who was on a 35 game win streak. This a huge upset, about as huge in sports as it gets.

Where are all my comments?
This blog still get 300 unique visitors daily, but I am only getting 1 – 5 comments . . where’s the love?

Condolences to Mike Tyson
On the death of his 4 year old. Tyson’s had his ups and downs, but he really seemed at this point in his life to finnally be under control. You hate to see kids die, never mind in freak almost preventable accidents like this.

Holy Moley
So, last night around 10PM, I am flipping channels, and end up at the Sci-Fi Channel, and you know what they were playing a marathon of? Guess . . .

LAND OF THE LOST!

So, Malach is old enough to remember watching this back before Cable. I was 5 – 6 – 7 around there. Wow, I had forgotten how bad, but how good this show truly was . . Atrocious acting, sets, special effects; pretty amazing plots and storyline, especially for a kids show.
